Sherstin Hicken

Music has always played an important part in Sherstin’s life. She has many fond memories of making music in her childhood—Sunday music nights at great-grandma’s, piano lessons with her mom, singing around the campfire, and finally getting old enough to play instruments in band and orchestra classes at school and in private lessons. She always knew she wanted to be a music teacher when she grew up.

Sherstin continued following her passion for music, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a K-12 Music Endorsement from Utah State University. During her time in Logan, she performed on her clarinet with the Wind Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Marching Band, Pep Band, and the Caine Quintet. She still enjoys participating in the alumni band concerts held each summer. Her teaching journey began at age 16, giving private lessons to beginners, and she has since continued instructing students in piano, clarinet, violin, and viola.

In 2021, she began teaching music and preschool classes at Alliance. She believes that everyone has music inside them and can find belonging in her classroom. A multi-instrumentalist, she jumps at any opportunity to add another instrument to her list. She loves spending time with her husband and three children, being outdoors, playing games, cooking, and learning new things.
