Classes taught by Sharon Collier

Sharon Collier

Sharon Collier is an artistic, caring individual. She has spent years working on her art, first self taught, then with a mentor. She has spent the last seven years at home teaching her four oldest children and working hard homesteading her land, building her house from the ground up with her husband and living off of her animals and garden. She has a love of learning and loves to share that with others. In her free time, you may find her in the garden with her flowers, getting cozy on the couch with a good book or getting her hands dirty with oil pastels and paint.

Class Description:

This Advanced Middle School Art class is designed for students who have a strong interest in developing their artistic skills and exploring new creative challenges. Meeting once per week for the school year, this course will focus on advanced techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media art. Students will study artistic principles such as composition, perspective, color theory, and shading while also being encouraged to experiment with personal styles and creative expression.

In addition to hands-on projects, students will analyze famous artists and movements, participate in critiques, and explore how art connects to culture and history. This class will help students refine their technical abilities while also encouraging them to think creatively and develop their own artistic voice.

Course Objectives:

 Throughout the year, students will:

  • Refine Technical Skills: Learn advanced drawing, painting, and sculpting techniques.

  • Explore Art Movements & Artists: Study famous artists and artistic styles from different time periods and cultures.

  • Work with Various Mediums: Experiment with acrylics, watercolors, pastels, clay, digital tools, and mixed media.

  • Develop a Personal Artistic Style: Create original artwork that reflects personal interests and creative choices.

  • Participate in Art Critiques: Give and receive constructive feedback to improve artistic growth.

  • Create a Portfolio: Compile a collection of works showcasing artistic development over the year.

  • Showcase Artwork: Have opportunities to display pieces in school showcases held in the Fall and the Spring.

This course is perfect for middle school students looking to push their creative boundaries, refine their artistic techniques, and gain confidence in their abilities as young artists.
