Jasmyne is pleased to offer Language Arts and German classes here at Alliance. She first started developing her teaching skills while she served as a missionary for her church in Germany. While in Germany, she gained valuable experience in language, leadership, and intercultural understanding. She greatly enjoyed learning and speaking German, and brought that love home with her.
Jasmyne graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Interdisciplinary Humanities, including an emphasis in English. She also earned a minor in editing. During her time at BYU, she was able to develop her critical thinking and communication skills. She gained more teaching experience through working as a mentor at Project Read, a program that pairs native English speakers with International college students who are seeking to improve their English.
Jasmyne has also spent the last seven years working as an online ESL tutor for a China-based company called VIPKid, where she helps children from around the world improve their speaking, reading, and comprehension skills.
With a blend of academic knowledge, real-world experience, and a passion for teaching, Jasmyne strives to inspire students to think critically, communicate effectively, and appreciate diverse perspectives.

In our Creative Writing class, we’ll spark our imaginations and grow our writing skills in a fun, supportive environment. As a supplemental language arts class, we’ll also spend time each week practicing both print and cursive handwriting to strengthen fine motor skills and writing fluency.
A key part of our curriculum will be the Night Zookeeper program—a fantastic resource that offers creative writing prompts and projects designed to engage young writers. Along the way, students will also build vocabulary and practice spelling in an enjoyable, low-pressure way. Through Night Zookeeper, students will be introduced to a variety of writing genres, including persuasive writing, reports, poetry, and more.
Each class will begin with a focused handwriting lesson, where we’ll learn and practice specific letter forms and techniques. Afterward, we’ll dive into our Night Zookeeper writing adventures, giving students the chance to express themselves, explore new ideas, and develop confidence in their writing voice.
Here’s a look at our genre exploration goals:
By the end of this course, students will be able to:

Welcome to The Reluctant Readers Book Club!
AND if you LOVE reading PERFECT,
come and share that love with your friends!!
This isn’t your ordinary book club — it’s a reading adventure designed just for kids who don’t
think they like reading (yet)! In this fun, low-pressure club, students will explore exciting, funny,
and high-interest stories through interactive activities, read-alouds, audiobooks, games, and art.
We will have short discussions to talk about what we liked or noticed from the books and
connect those observations to real life.
Each week, we’ll dive into short books that spark imagination and curiosity — with the option to
work up to longer books as we progress throughout the year. We’ll focus on “experiencing the
story” rather than “getting through” a book by connecting to the text through related activities.
Whether it’s building a comic strip, solving a mystery, acting out a silly scene, or comparing a
book to a movie, this club helps students build confidence and enjoy stories in a way that works
for them.
No reading experience or love of books required — just an open mind and a willingness to have
fun!
✨ What to Expect:
Read-alouds and audiobooks, some longer chapter books
Discussion starters and wrap-ups that spark connection
Creative projects tied to characters or themes
A supportive, no-pressure environment that celebrates effort and curiosity
A wonderful opportunity to build reading confidence, comprehension, and connection
 Our Goals:
Help students see themselves as readers — even if they don’t love reading (yet)
Practice expressing ideas through drawing, storytelling, and discussion
Improve listening comprehension through read-alouds and audiobooks
Show that books can be fun, funny, weird, and exciting
Develop reading comprehension through identifying themes, comparing characters, and
making inferences
Create a positive, judgment-free community where every voice is heard

Students will learn new vocabulary words and phrases related to everyday life. They will further their conversational skills by studying sentence structure and parts of speech. They will continue to practice proper pronunciation skills through conversational activities as well as through reading German texts. Our Intermediate students will also deepen their understanding of German culture by learning about some famous Germans who have made meaningful impacts on the world, such as the Grimm Brothers, Bach, Mozart, and Einstein.
