Kaylee Zakimi loves learning about the diverse cultures, languages, music, foods, and customs of people around the world! As an 18-year-old she moved to Oahu to study cultural anthropology at Brigham Young University Hawai’i. While there she made friends with people from over 40 different countries and loved gaining new perspectives from each of them. Her favorite job was working as a tour guide at the Polynesian Cultural Center where she had countless opportunities to interact with incredible visitors from around the world!
The highlight of her education in Hawai’i was completing a certificate in the Intercultural Peacebuilding program where she learned about healthy approaches to conflict, mediation practices, and how to collaborate for community growth. She later moved to Provo to finish her bachelor’s degree in social science education and a Spanish language certificate at Brigham Young University. While there, she developed a strong passion for media literacy education which centers on becoming active and engaged media consumers and creators in order to help democracy thrive in our digital world.
When she is not teaching, she loves spending time with her husband and 3 kids paddleboarding, camping, and reading books. She is thrilled to be a part of the Alliance community!
