Shauna Ogden

Hello! I’m Shauna Ogden, and I’m excited to teach Geography, Art, and to explore Words and Stories this year! I grew up with an Air Force pilot Dad and had the blessing to live all over the United States, and also Guam and Panama. Wherever we lived we traveled all around the area and I’ve been able to experience a variety of cultures, even within the USA. My love of traveling this amazing world extends into my adult years. I once told my Mom that she homeschooled us without even knowing she was doing that by how she brought so much of the culture wherever we lived into our home. My homeschool journey with my own children started in 1989 with Joy School, which taught me how fun it is to be a parent-teacher, and so I home-educated all 5 of my children over the course of 24 years!

I graduated from Ricks College with an Associate degree in General Education, and Brigham Young University with a BS degree in Health Science. I served a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in-between those two degrees. After my homeschool journey with my children was done, I taught art in 2017 at East Elementary for a semester, and then four years at RJHS.

I think that children are never too young to learn about this world we all share, to learn about words and how to use them, to become familiar with the words of great authors and poets, and to use art to express their feelings when words might fail them. I hope to instill in your children a love of art and creativity, a curiosity of the world and its peoples, and the beauty of words and stories as we learn together!

Join us on an exciting journey as we explore the diverse landscapes, people, and traditions of our world! This interactive class combines geography, history, and cultural studies, helping students develop a deeper understanding of the world and its many unique societies. Through maps, projects, hands-on activities, and discussions, students will build essential geography skills while also discovering the traditions, languages, food, and customs that shape each region.

Course Objectives:

Our curriculum follows a three-year rotating cycle, so students can take the class for up to three years without repeating material:

  • Year 1: The Americas (North, Central, and South America)

  • Year 2: Europe, Africa, and the Middle East

  • Year 3: Asia, Australia, and the Polar Regions

Each year, students will explore physical geography, major landmarks, and ecosystems, as well as how people in different regions live, work, and celebrate. Whether it’s studying indigenous traditions, exploring world religions, or tasting foods from different cultures, students will leave this class with a greater appreciation for the rich diversity of our planet. Whether you're new to the class or returning for another year, there’s always something new to discover in World Geography & Cultures!
