Class Description:

Our Exploring Science Careers class introduces students to the vast world of scientific professions through hands-on learning, guest speakers, and engaging projects. Each quarter, we will focus on a different scientific field, including Energy, Botany, Mammals, and Geology, to explore the science behind these careers and the real-world impact they have. Students will dive into experiments, discussions, and activities that bring these fields to life while gaining insight into the various paths available in STEM-related careers.

A highlight of this course is the opportunity to hear from guest speakers each month—professionals working in different scientific fields who will share their experiences, career journeys, and insights into the exciting work they do. Students will engage in interactive projects related to each career focus, such as analyzing energy sources, growing and studying plants, learning about animal behaviors, and investigating rocks and minerals. By the end of the year, students will have a deeper appreciation for the diversity of scientific careers and a clearer understanding of how science shapes the world around them.

Course Objectives:

  • Quarterly Career Focus: Each quarter, we will explore a new field of science—Energy, Botany, Mammals, and Geology—through hands-on projects and experiments.

  • Guest Speakers: Monthly visits from professionals in various science-related careers to provide real-world perspectives and career insights.

  • Hands-On Learning: Engaging experiments and activities that allow students to experience the science behind each career, such as growing plants, studying rock formations, and analyzing animal habitats.

  • Career Exploration: Students will research different STEM careers and learn about the education, skills, and training required for each.

  • Collaboration & Discussions: Students will work together to solve challenges, discuss scientific innovations, and explore how different careers contribute to society.

This course is perfect for students who are curious about science, love hands-on learning, and want to explore the many career paths available in the STEM fields!
